Fortnightly Fire Protection Checklist

To be completed by suitably qualified persons no more than 2 weeks before each ship visit.

The aim of the following procedures is to provide assurance that the fire protection systems are operational and ready for use, prior to each arrival of a bulk flammable liquids ship. Test results shall be recorded electronically via the form below and stored online so that they may be accessed at any time. Maintenance work will not be considered complete until the form below has been successfully submitted and received by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Section 1 - Pre Survey checks
1.1 All previous defects and non-conformances attended to and recorded
1.2 Inform Flinders Ports signal tower and SAMFS of testing being carried out
1.3 Isolate Romteck unit
1.4 Check fire protection system for signs of damage, leakage or obstructions restricting access
1.5 Check fire water tank is full
1.6 Check foam tank stock is >60 minutes using sight glass
1.7 Check pump controllers are on, and not isolated or in alarm
1.8 Check valves are in their correct standby position (see wall chart)
Section 2 - From the fixed Station in the Fire Control Room
2.1 Select "Local" control station and check green LED is illuminated
2.2 Switch on "Test Mode" and check yellow LED is illuminated
2.3 Press "Siren" push button and check sounder on pump house roof operates
2.4 Start the Left / Southern monitor on water, check one pump has started and Left / Southern monitor is discharging water
2.5 Check flow is >4,200 L/min and pressure is >900 kPa
2.6 Check the joystick moves the Left monitor up, down, left and right
2.7 Check the fog-jet switch widens and narrows the Left monitor delivery
2.8 Start the Right / Northern monitor on water, check both pumps have started and Right / Northern monitor is discharging water
2.9 Check flow is >8,400 L/min and pressure is >900 kPa
2.10 Check the joystick moves the Right monitor up, down, left and right
2.11 Check the fog-jet switch widens and narrows the Right monitor delivery
2.12 Turn both monitors off and check fire pumps have stopped
2.13 Switch off "Test Mode" and select "Belly-Pack" control station
2.14 Replace battery with fully charged standby
2.15 Check all switches on the Belly-Pack are in their off position
2.16 Switch on Belly-Pack and check green LED is illuminated and steady
Section 3 - From the Belly Pack Station
3.1 Switch on "Test Mode" and check orange LED is illuminated
3.2 Press "Siren" push button and check sounder on pump house roof operates
3.3 Start the Left / Southern monitor on water, check one pump has started and Left / Southern monitor is discharging water
3.4 Check the joystick moves the Left monitor up, down, left and right
3.5 Check the fog-jet switch widens and narrows the Left / Southern monitor delivery
3.6 Start the Right / Northern monitor on water, check that both pumps have started and Right / Northern monitor is discharging water
3.7 Check the joystick moves the Right monitor up, down, left and right
3.8 Check the fog-jet switch widens and narrows the Right monitor delivery
3.9 Turn both monitors off
3.10 After discharge has stopped, switch off "Test Mode" and "Belly-Pack"
3.11 Place standby battery for Belly-Pack on charger
Section 4 - Post Survey
4.1 Check "Test Mode" is switched off and "Belly-Pack" is selected at fixed control station
4.2 Check fire pumps have stopped and low fuel alarm has not operated
If either low fuel alarm is active arrange for both fuel tanks to be filled
4.3 Advise SAMFS works are completed and de-isolate Romteck unit
4.4 Check Safety Shower / Eye Wash Unit is operating correctly
Section 5 - Service Records
Defect Type: 1 - Critical Defect, 2 - Non-Critical Defect, 3 - Non-Conformance, 4 - Recommendation
